AHPPA Animal Shelter Costa Rica

costarica1costarica2

costarica3costarica4

Where: Heredia, Costa Rica

Founded: 1991

Manager: Lilian Schnog

Volunteers: dozens

Activities: Support, care and rehabilitation of dogs and cats. AHPPA acts to save animals affected by the frequent flooding in the region (see top photo). To address the stray problem, AHPPA organizes sterilization operations. The operations are performed both in the shelter and on location (remote areas). People with a small budget to pay for the surgery itself may call on them. A mobile group of veterinarians performs the surgeries, which number in the hundreds each year. Furthermore, the shelter provides the public with information and a shop where people can buy supplies for their animals.

Capacity: several hundred animals

Supported by SBA since: 1992
Lilian Schnog: ‘We are very grateful that the SBA has always helped us. Through the help of SBA, the AHPPA recently purchased a pickup truck to assist our sterilization efforts in the field.’

Support Projects SBA: the SBA funded a pickup truck in which animals can be transported to receive care.
