Shelter: SOS Animali International
Where: Siena (Tuscany), Italy
Manager: Helga Wallrath
Activity: Shelter of between 70 and 80 dogs and 200 cats in a very broad field, not only from Italy (Rome and south of it), but also from Bosnia Herzegovina, Spain, Romania, Russia and Morocco. They are often sick, old and traumatized animals that cannot be relocated, that receive a nice, quiet time for the remainder of their lives. They are not put in new homes. Younger animals and puppies and kittens are temporarily collected until a new home is found. Animals are collected both from the streets and municipal shelters, where conditions are poor. SOS Animali tries to make local people aware of what constitutes responsible pet ownership, including the importance of neutering of their animals. In addition, there is at this particular shelter space for horses, donkeys, ponies, chickens, geese, ducks, parrots, and so on.
Capacity: approximately 300 animals
Supported by SBA since:
- Expansion of the sanctuary because the shelter is always filled to capacity.
